I'll show you in this video a quick easy way to feel what breath support feels like, without really needing to know anything about it.
For years "breathing from the diaphragm" and "breath support" didn't really help or do anything for my singing. No matter how much I expanded my belly like a pregnant woman or "pushed from the diaphragm" it for some reason didn't seem to "link up" with my voice in any way. My voice felt shaky, unstable and weak, and I'd just hit a wall in my chest voice and crack into falsetto at F4.
The reason why so many singers struggle with this is because 99% of the time the weakness is not to do with the breath or abdomen or ribs etc...it's to do with the vocal folds not being able to compress and resist against the air.
Basically you need more squeeze in your throat...in a healthy way.
I never felt proper support until I learned how to properly squeeze my vocal folds together. However, if you do this in front of a teacher they'll tell you it's not "proper breath support" because "proper breath support" is when "your throat is free and not squeezed".
IT DOESN'T START THAT WAY THOUGH.
And this is why so many things in singing are confusing, including breath support. Because if you aren't at the "completed finish line" then you are told that "you're wrong".
The key is having a step-by-step process that builds you up in a reliable way to the outcome, as opposed to being constantly told that you have to somehow be relaxed and effortless while having your voice still hold together and be stable.
